Dr. Jen Rae, University of Wisconsin–Madison’s artist-in-residence and co-founder of The Centre for Reworlding, in partnership with the Division of the Arts at UW–Madison, is convening an invitational Creative Resilience Lab on Thursday and Friday, April 3–4, 2025, at MYArts in Madison, Wisconsin. This two-day immersive and collaborative lab will build collective knowledge and wisdom on the climate emergency and disasters, involving Indigenous custodians, local artists, scientists, community organizations, emergency services, local government representatives, and philanthropists. We will further explore the intersections between the climate emergency, climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, social cohesion and creative practice in a localized context.

Through experiential scenarios, expert panels, exercises and dialogue the lab is designed to foster sustainable cross-sectoral relationships and capacity for collaboration in community-based creative resilience approaches in the immediate now but also considering how our work now will impact future generations.

This lab will help us extend our social and professional networks, share our perspectives and skills and identify opportunities to work together in our future response to the climate emergency and impacts likely to emerge.

The Creative Resilience Lab will also provide participants with professional development that is grounded in trans-disciplinary collaboration (making new knowledge together) and the development or deepening of understanding of the ways in which arts and culture can bolster our ability to adapt, survive and thrive in the face of natural hazards and disasters.

The Creative Resilience Lab is a program of the Centre for Reworlding and is supported by the UW–Madison Division of the Arts, the Center for Visual Cultures and the Art Department.
